 I am so amazed, pleased & suprised at the reaction to the new pinklily tv commercial

its airing on foxtel mostly throughout "Keeping up with the Kardashians"

with every pinklily sale - you are asked the question -

"how did you hear about pinklily ?" - and most are answering - foxtel.

Then you get the phone call from me asking  " which show" -

I cannot tell you how many of my pinklily clients are watching the Kardashians - how much do you love it ?
a lot of you are saying - " yes I’m so embarrassed - I watch it all the time" " yes but I’m a grandmother" " omg do I have to admit it ?"  - this has been so wonderful !  clearly a very popular show. I think its great and obviously so do my clients !!

what else are you watching ? - pinklily can also be seen on the Daily 10, and will start in June on the Lifestyle You Channel - can you imagine how much I love the wardrobe shows ?

watching shows like these just gives us the opportunity to switch off ? to relate or really assess - and thank our lucky stars that our problems aren’t as big as theirs?

foxtel & TVSN has definately kept me busy with new products and re launches of some old favourites.

the handbag garage is now back in stock and the ladybird is due any day now.
I’ve added some great cedar balls to protect your clothes and damp rid to get rid of some mould.
there are new gimmetunes high heel speakers and gorgeous silver and black mesh jewellery rolls.

currently in design and sampling are the chubby and skinny beauty boxes, the hat box and some gorgeous scented pinklily drawer liners.

one product we won’t be living without is the sparkle safe  - but that is a whole new article which needs an issue all to itself.

Our eyes ?

Which is your latest product that we should be applying?

I am such a tanning addict ! – what is the greatest mistake we make when using tanning products ?

What gives you the most enjoyment about your “ job” ?

 

When I find out that I have had a positive impact on somebody’s life, even in just a small way with my products, then that is seriously what drives me to keep coming up with more and more smart beauty solutions! One lady told me that she had lost her eyebrows due to cancer and that my MORE BROWS product (which is a clear gel with hair-like fibers running through it) had helped her to gain confidence and feel better about herself - that meant so much to me.

 

As the brand grows I want to continue to spend time interacting directly with my customers to find out what women truly want – I try to make time in my hectic schedule to spend time actually on-counter, as this is the best way to stay in touch with my customer! I still get such a thrill out of actually selling a product which I have created.

 

Also in my speaking engagements, I often get such lovely positive feedback from the women in the audience – this really helps to spur me on, and lets me know that what I work so hard to achieve everyday, actually counts.

 

Shelley you are constantly travelling overseas – what is a great travelling tip that you always take / remember to do?

 

Always travel with sachets of Hydralytes to keep me hydrated, also travel sized beauty products which save space in my suitcase – I always carry a couple of sachets of TAN GLOVE so I can stay looking bronzed on my travels without having to damage my skin in the sun & LIQUID BUDS are fantastic for travelling as they snap open to release eye makeup remover!

 

If there was a pinklily reader who was thinking about starting up a new beauty range, it might be a new range of lipbalms, candles or even moisturizers – what should they definitely do first?

 

Research! Make sure you know your competitors, the market you are launching into & your target market. Also I would advise anyone who is thinking of starting their own business to thoroughly understand the business you’re in and all its facets – legal, retail, marketing, export. You need to understand the different arms of a business to truly succeed.

 

What is the one thing that you believe women always forget in their daily beauty routine?  

Priming before applying your foundation – our FACE BASE Skin Primer is actually our unsung hero – it  is one of out top 5 best selling products and has an incredibly loyal following! The silicone-based formula allows foundation to glide on, keeping it in place for up to 10 hours. What do women say is the hardest makeup / beauty product to apply ? do you have the product to make this easier?

 

This would have to be fake tan, which is what inspired me to launch TAN Airbrush In A Can 7 years ago – I wanted to create a product which gave the same results as a salon spray tan but which you could apply yourself at home for a fraction of the cost. Since then I have gone on to create an extensive range of innovative tanning products to suit every occasion &personal preference!

 

 

Having your own business,  juggling children, there are definitely going to be days when everything doesn’t go so right, the children are screaming and every business call / email is wrong – what do you do to get you through these moments ? is it a cupcake, a walk or even a scream ?  

 

I’m quite a spiritual person – I always find time to meditate every day even if it’s just for a few minutes, it helps to clear my mind and refocus my thoughts.

 

I am also a very tenacious person – whenever I’ve been told I can’t do something it’s made me even more determined to achieve it and prove people wrong. Sometimes it’s just a matter of changing your approach to a situation. ‘No is not an option!’ –this mantra has served me extremely well in my career.

 

Oh, and a good sense of humour always helps to get me through the tough times, and if all else fails - then yes we can turn to the treats cupboard!

 

Which has been your most successful product and why?

TAN Airbrush In A Can transcended convention and launched an entirely new beauty category worldwide when it launched in 2003, it is now a cult classic and remains our best selling product today! There are now copycat products from some of the world’s largest cosmetics houses, but I take this as a compliment.

 

What is your favourite modelco product and why?

This is a tough one but one of my all-time favourites would have to be LIP LIGHTS Ultra-Shine Gloss which was the world’s first ever lip gloss to have an inbuilt light & mirror – which enables you to touch-up your gloss on-the-go and never fails to evoke a response from women and men, especially cab drivers!

Where does your inspiration for your beauty products come from?
